Project Summary

This project to build and equip weaving huts and workshops for the men, women and children of Livichuco community in Qaqachaka ayllu, Oruro, Bolivia, was supported by an alliance between ILCA and the Rotary Club and Inner Wheel Club of Sudbury Talbot, Suffolk, in England. During the project, ILCA also made an alliance with the Peace Corps in Bolivia who funded a small part of the construction, and who, importantly, permitted us to work with a volunteer architect of theirs, Laura Pusanteri, who supervised the building of the weaving huts together with Dr. Denise Arnold.

The weaving project had a special impact in the Livichuco multigrade school, and the Inner Wheel Club of Suffolk responded to the request by local teachers to equip carpentry and weaving workshops with tools and looms for regular classes on these subjects. A wider impact took place throughout Qaqachaka ayllu, with the emergence of similar weaving projects, and at a wider level still in the region-wide Infotambo project, based in the nearby market town of Challapata.
